A 25-year-old man has been charged with felony criminal mischief after vandalizing a Tesla Cybertruck in a Costco parking lot—an incident that was caught on camera and went viral online before his arrest.

The suspect, identified as Ryan Lyle Williams of Fargo, North Dakota, was apprehended after police reviewed footage from Tesla’s built-in security cameras and nearby business surveillance.

According to the West Fargo Police Department, officers responded to a vandalism report at 750 23rd Avenue E. around 1:57 p.m. on Saturday, March 29. Upon arrival, they discovered that a Tesla had been keyed, and the suspect had already fled.

“After further investigation, the suspect’s vehicle was identified utilizing nearby business and Tesla vehicle cameras,” police stated.

Williams was later located and admitted to the vandalism, leading to felony charges being filed against him. The case has now been forwarded to the Cass County State’s Attorney’s Office for prosecution.

The incident gained massive attention on social media, with X (formerly Twitter) users playing a key role in spreading the footage, which ultimately helped in identifying the suspect.
