Illinois Democrat Senator carjacked in Chicago, shots fired…

CHICAGO – Illinois State Senator Democrat Kimberly Lightford was carjacked Tuesday night in the Chicago suburb of Broadview, officials said.  Lightford was traveling with her husband around 9:45 p.m. when three suspects driving a Dodge Durango demanded their Mercedes SUV in the 2000 block of South 20th Avenue.

Chief of Police Thomas Mills said, “The victim did hear what they believe to be gunfire.”

“First and foremost I am thankful that my husband and I are alive and physically unharmed,” the lawmaker said in a written statement. “I am trying to process the trauma of what happened. I want to thank everyone who has offered their love and support. I want to especially thank Mayor Katrina Thompson and the Broadview Police Department for their quick and thorough response.”

The suspects remain at large.
