U.S. home prices increased unexpectedly in February as mortgage rates softened and buyers returned to the market. The S&P Corelogic Case-Shiller U.S. National Home Price Index showed a 0.2% month-over-month increase, ending seven months of price declines. However, the index reported a lower 2% annual gain in February, down from 3.7% In January, and remains 4.9% below the June 2022 peak.
