A tragic helicopter crash in the Hudson River, which was reported yesterday, has resulted in the loss of five lives, including those of three young children. According to the New York Times, two passengers were still alive when divers pulled them from the water, but both tragically passed away a short time later.

The victims have been identified as Agustín Escobar, Mercè Camprubí Montal, and their three children: Agustín, 10; Mercè, 8; and Víctor, 4. The family had been on a sightseeing helicopter ride when the disaster unfolded. In a heartbreaking turn, Mercè would have celebrated her 9th birthday today.
Both parents were employed at Siemens. Agustín Escobar was the CEO of Rail Infrastructure at Siemens Mobility, and his wife, Mercè Camprubí Montal, worked as a global commercialization manager at the company. The couple was known for their ambition and love for traveling, often sharing their adventures on social media.
The pilot of the helicopter also tragically lost his life in the crash.
While the identities of the two individuals who survived initially have not been confirmed, police commissioner Jessica S. Tisch reported that both later succumbed to their injuries. The cause of the crash is still under investigation, and authorities are working to determine the circumstances leading up to the incident.
