Russia’s former President Dmitry Medvedev has warned to the world that any attempt to arrest Russian President Vladimir Putin would be viewed as a “declaration of war.”
“Let’s imagine – obviously this situation which will never be realized – but nevertheless lets imagine that it was realized: The current head of the nuclear state went to a territory, say Germany, and was arrested,” Medvedev said.
“What would that be? It would be a declaration of war on the Russian Federation,” he said in a video posted to Telegram. “And in that case, all our assets – all our missiles et cetera – would fly to the Bundestag, to the Chancellor’s office.”
On Thursday, Medvedev suggested that Russia could fire a hypersonic missile at the International Criminal Court’s (ICC) headquarters in The Hague, Netherlands.
The comments comes a week after the ICC issued an arrest warrant for Putin for his alleged war crimes. The ICC accused Putin of being personally responsible for abductions of children in Ukraine.
“(Putin is) allegedly responsible for the war crime of unlawful deportation of (children) and that of unlawful transfer of (children) from occupied areas of Ukraine to the Russian Federation,” a statement from the ICC said.
President Joe Biden has said that he believes that the arrest warrant was “justified.” On Friday, he claimed that Putin “clearly committed war crimes.” This was in regards to the ongoing war between Ukraine and Russia.
