Patterson was reportedly apprehended in a condominium complex near Truist Park, 11 miles from the scene, on Wednesday evening. Atlanta police announced that his getaway vehicle was recovered in a parking garage nearby.

On Wednesday morning, Patterson shot five women, between the ages of 25 to 71, in the Northside Hospital Medical Center waiting room. At least four of the females were reported to have been injured with one confirmed dead on scene, a 39-year-old woman.

Chief Medical Officer Robert Jansen shared that four wounded adults were rushed to Grady Memorial Hospital, where three were listed as in critical condition. Two of the critical patients underwent surgery with one having a gunshot wound to the abdomen and the other, having a gunshot wound in the arm. The third critical patient had been shot in the face and required an interventional radiology procedure.

After the shooting, Patterson fled in a vehicle that he carjacked.

An image of the male suspect in dark pants, gray hoodie, carrying a bag, who appeared at the 1100 block of Peachtree Street NW building were shared on social media following the event.

“The suspect is believed to be armed and dangerous and should not be approached,” Police said.

Several police cars and other emergency vehicles including Atlanta police, Atlanta fire, MARTA police, Georgia Tech police and the Georgia State Patrol, responded to the many distress calls from the area.
