Georgia Sheriff’s Deputy DEAD Three Days After Being Shot In The Line Of Duty

A Georgia Sheriff’s deputy has tragically passed away three days after she was shot while responding to a domestic dispute.

CBS News reported that the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office identified the deputy as Lena Marshall, who went by her middle name of Nicole.

“As Sheriff, and on behalf of the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, it is with a heavy heart that I advise you all that we lost Deputy Lena Marshall around 3:50 pm today,” Sheriff Janis G. Mangum said in a statement. “Please respect the privacy of Deputy Marshall’s family at this difficult time.”

Marshall was reportedly shot on Friday night while responding to a 911 call from a home about a domestic situation. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation said that homeowners had called the police to remove a woman from the home who didn’t live there. When police arrived, the woman, who has been identified as Hoschton resident Jessica Worsham, pulled out a gun and opened fire, killing Marshall. Worsham was then shot and killed by another deputy.

Marshall was a mother of three whose own mother was in law enforcement, so this job was always in her blood.

“She didn’t like sitting behind the desk,” her friend Wanda Johnson told 11 Alive. “She’s felt the need to serve and protect out on the streets and try to make a difference, so this is just heartbreaking. It’s just tragic for know that she lost her life doing what she loved.”

“She left her family to go out and protect others,” she added. “It’s just devastating. It’s senseless that this happens. She wanted to go after her dreams and that she wanted to provide for her family.”

Marshall’s friend Rebecca Schrader also remembered how much she loved her job and her family.

“Her whole thing about being a police officer was seriously just to protect people because they needed it,” she said. “She also loved her cowboy boots. She loved her big wheels and trucks. She was awesome. I must tell you that her life really it was her friends and was mainly her kids.”

Sadly, Marshall lost a son years ago on the very same date that she passed away.

“She had lost a son, and the anniversary of his death is today as well. She died on the same day that her son died. November 8th,” said Johnson, adding that she and her husband “are on the way to the cemetery now to light a candle on his grave. I know Austin greeted her with open arms. He was probably running for the first time ever… running to his mom.”

Rest in peace, Deputy Marshall.
