House GOP Leader: Comparing Joe Biden’s presidency to Jimmy Carter’s is an ‘insult’ to Carter

House GOP Leader Kevin McCarthy told reporters that comparisons between former President Jimmy Carter’s tenure in office and President Biden’s job performance are an “insult” to Carter.

“With crisis after crisis continuing to unfold under the Biden watch, I now realize that comparison is an actual insult to Jimmy Carter,” McCarthy said at a news conference on Thursday. “We aren’t even a year into this presidency, and President Biden has put this country in a constant state of crisis day after day.”

As examples of crises, McCarthy cited rising inflation, the labor shortage, the Afghanistan withdrawal and the influx of migrants arriving at the U.S.-Mexico border.

“Where is the border czar, Vice President Harris?” he asked. “Tomorrow will mark the sixth month since she was appointed to this role. And in that time, the situation at the border has only continued to deteriorate. Over 1.2 million migrants have been apprehended since Biden and Harris took office.”

McCarthy noted that over 10,000 Haitian migrants have crossed the border and camped out under a bridge outside of Del Rio, Texas. Many of those Haitian migrants are being released into the U.S. interior and asked to report to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) offices at a later date. Under previous administrations, migrants eligible for release into the U.S. were given a notice to appear in court.

“Their journey is a direct result of the Biden-Harris agenda that wants to grant them amnesty and a lifetime of government benefits,” he said.
