Representative Lauren Boebert has introduced new legislation which will require the Department of Justice (DOJ) to disclose how much capital it spends working with social media.

The Exposing Lewd Outlays for Social Networking Companies, or ELON Act, was introduced by Boebert (R-Colo.) on Wednesday.

This would require the U.S. comptroller general to report all DOJ payments to Twitter, Meta, Google, Microsoft, and Apple since the beginning of 2015.

“Big Tech is in bed with the FBI and other agencies to the point where Congress can’t tell where one ends and the other begins,” Boebert said. “The millions of dollars sent to Twitter that we know of during an election year, when they were at the same time censoring the Hunter Biden laptop from hell, is incredibly concerning.”

Along with requiring reports on all spending from all agencies on federal money spent with big tech companies, the bill would also put in place a one-year moratorium on additional funds.

The bill is introduced as the House Oversight Committee launched a hearing into censorship on Twitter, specifically regarding the Hunter Biden laptop story and COVID.

GOP members are accusing social media companies of targeting and silencing conservative voices on their platforms, using the Hunter Biden laptop story as their main proof.

The ELON Act has already garnered several GOP co-sponsors which include Representatives Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.), Anna Paulina Luna (R-Fla.), Troy Nehls (R-Texas), Paul Gosar (R-Ariz.), Mary Miller (R-Ill.), and Eric Burlison (R-Mo.)

“We must expose the incestuous relationship between Big Tech and the federal government,” the Colorado Republican said. “My bill does exactly that.”
